Tiki Taane & The Dub Soldiers

7-piece band The Dub Soldiers was established in 2007 when the band was created to perform 5 nationwide shows to launch the “Past Present Future” LP. From here, despite a couple of member changes over the last couple of years, the core band remains the same, consisting of some of Tiki’s oldest and closest industry colleagues. Also accompanied by Tiki’s father Uekaha on vocals, the Dub Soldiers are renowned for bringing an explosive and dynamic set to any major event and often will do so with the accompaniment of Waikato Kapahaka Te Pou O Mangatawhiri.

Having headlined shows such as Parihaka Festival, Coromandel Gold, Gravis Open, Homegrown, Splore, Sounday, I-Nation, nationwide Orientation circuits and Big Day Out (both NZ and Australia), Tiki Taane and The Dub Soldiers are currently taking a well-deserved break while Tiki conjures up his next recording (to be released late 2010).

Those who have followed Tiki’s career over the last 15 years will know that he has been rocking the mic as one of NZ’s top drum n bass/jungle MC’s for at least a decade, becoming “the DJ’s MC” through supporting DJ’s both locally and internationally. Now, with the release of his solo music, Tiki applies this skill live in the context of performing his own material and backed by his own selected DJ. Generally targeting small towns and small to medium sized intimate venues, Tiki takes this show on the road once a year for a full nationwide blast of over 20 towns. The Tiki MC/DJ show has also headlined NZ events such as Phat, Native Noise, Homegrown, Southern Amp - to name a few.

Solo acoustic Tiki

It would be natural to assume that when you see a man onstage armed with an acoustic guitar and mic only, then you will be in for a mellow, folk set. However this is far from the reality of what Tiki brings when he performs solo and acoustically – his set instead reminds us of the sheer power of the guitar’s potential combined with the basic beauty of a well-written and simple tune executed with full commitment. Master of all of these skills, Tiki’s set is renowned for its unifying effect on the audience as he seamlessly delivers renowned anthems from his current material, new tunes yet to be released and hits from his days as Salmonella Dub frontman.
